Reception class has had a special visitor - an owl! The children were so excited to see the owl up close. It was a beautiful bird with big, round eyes and soft, brown and white feathers. The owl’s handler told the children about where owls live, what they like to eat, and how they hunt for food at night using their sharp eyesight. The owl even spread its wings, and everyone was amazed at how wide they were. The children learned that owls can fly very quietly, which helps them catch their prey. It was such a fun and interesting visit, and everyone got to ask questions and learn lots of new facts about owls!

Reception had a brilliant trip to Lancaster farm. We travelled there by the number 59 bus and saw lots of different farm animals. We even got to feed lots like Mr Mustachio the horse, the tortoises, goats, geese. We also held Harry the rat!

Living Eggs came to school and gave us an incubator and 10 eggs to watch hatch. After 3 days we noticed that some of the eggs had a crack in them. We carefully watched the eggs and were very excited when they started to hatch. Once all 10 chicks had hatched Mrs Heywood moved them to the brooder box where we were able to observe and hold them.

We have had lots of fun in our new bakery role play area this week. We pretended to be bakers and learnt how to make different types of cakes and patisserie’s. We then pretended to bake them in the microwave and took them to the shop to sell to our friends.

Reception Ruby have had lots of fun learning about being doctors, nurses and paramedics.
We enjoyed helping our friends and making them feel better in our hospital role play area.

After reading the story 'The Singing Mermaid' Mrs Heywood showed us lots of different circus skills. We had lots of fun and learnt how to juggle with scarves, balance along a rope with a quoit on our heads, ribbon dance and spin plates.

Zog the dragon visited Reception. He made a big mess in the classroom and we used the iPads to take photos and videos of the crime scene. He lost his eggs and left us clues. We became detectives and followed the clues to find Zog’s eggs. We found them outside in the house.
We wrote Zog a letter to tell him that we had found his eggs. We then decided to leave Zog’s eggs outside and we built a den to protect them.
Zog came back for the eggs and sent us a photo of the baby dragons that had hatched.

Reception had lots of fun today when the firefighters came to visit us at school. They showed us all the different equipment that they use to fight fires and we all got to have a look inside the fire engine. The best bit was when we had a go at using the hose with firefighter Dan!

Reception have had lots of fun making magic potions this week after reading the story 'Room on the Broom'
We mixed lots of different ingredients together and loved watching what happened. We were so excited when our potions began to bubble and fizz!

Reception had lots of fun making Gruffalo pizzas this week. We made the pizza dough by mixing flour, yeast, salt and warm water together. Next we kneaded the dough till it was soft and smooth and then we rolled the dough out to make a round flat pizza shape. We carefully used the knife to cut different vegetables for his features.
We used tomatoes for his orange eyes, peppers for his terrible teeth, a mushroom for his nose and a pea for his poisonous wart at the end of his nose.

We have been having lots of fun in Santa's Workshop. We pretended we were Santa’s little helpers. We chose a present from the shelf and unrolled the wrapping paper. We carefully cut the wrapping paper with the scissors and then used the tape to wrap the presents. When we had finished we put the presents into the sack for Santa to take back to the North Pole.

This week we have been reading the story 'Whatever Next' We have had lots of fun acting out the story and pretending to be baby bear. We found a rocket, space helmet, space boots and took off into the night sky - we even had a picnic on the moon!
We have also had lots of fun painting and making rockets with 2D shapes and using the playdough to create our own baby bears!

We have been having lots of fun in our rocket role play this week! We dressed up as astronauts and pretended to go to the moon we even saw an alien!

We had a visit from Katie from SJ Falconry. She brought 4 owls for us to learn about - Fluffy, JD, Midge and Twiglet.
We learnt lots of facts about owls such as that owls can’t move their eyes but can move their heads nearly all the way round. We all loved holding Twiglet.

While learning about our new topic 'Night and Day' we learnt about nocturnal animals and they come out at night and go to sleep in the day. We enjoyed making and eating our very own hedgehog bread. We used the scales to carefully weigh all the different ingredients and practised our scissor skills when cutting the spikes.

As part of our curriculum week we read the story 'Mother Earth Weeps' We thought about why the ice was melting and what we could do to help stop it. We thought about what it would be like going to the Arctic and had lots of fun acting out being explorers.

As part of our topic - Me and My Family we went on a local area walk to look at all the different types of buildings and houses. We saw terraced houses, semi-detached houses and detached houses. We also saw the bakery, a mosque and got to meet the postman who was delivering some parcels.

We learnt how to safely use the hammers and screwdrivers to build our car. We used our fine motor skills to connect the nuts onto the bolts.

All the children in Ruby class were very excited to watch the chicks hatch from their eggs today!
We have 10 fluffy chicks and can't wait to look after them and watch them grow.

Reception enjoyed reading the story Supertato! The 'evil pea' visited our classroom and caused mischief so we made our own supertato's to save the day!

Reception read the story Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. We met Reggie our class pet and enjoyed holding him. We then had lots fun creating our own snail art.
